Support
If something is wrong, or merely odd, write to theguide@samdyatt.com. It is read by a person.
It helps to say which phone you have, which version of iOS, and what you were doing. The version of the app is at the top of Settings, under About.
A mistake in an entry
Every retold entry has a report a problem link at its foot. Use it. The Guide is told to use only what its sources say, and it can still be wrong, as can Wikipedia. You can also switch to the original Wikipedia text under Settings, Rewritten by, or by turning the Guide’s voice off.
The voice or the retelling is not working
The retelling and the reading aloud need a connection. If the Guide’s writer cannot be reached, the app shows Wikipedia’s own text and tries again later. Entries already fetched are kept. If it keeps failing for a long while, write to us and say when it started.
Playing with another person
- Nearby needs Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both phones, and permission for the Guide to use the local network (Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network). Both phones must have the screen for finding a traveler open at the same time: Useless Info, Play with a traveler, or Play a friend inside a game.
- Game Center needs you to be signed in to Game Center in the iPhone’s Settings, and multiplayer to be allowed for your account.
- Both phones need to have the game. If one does not, the other is told, and nothing is started.
- A grown-up can switch playing with others off under Settings, For Parents.
Parental controls and the PIN
Settings, For Parents, Parent Controls. The PIN is four digits. Setting or resetting it asks for Face ID or the phone’s passcode. Explicit and adult subjects are always blocked and cannot be turned off.
Your information
The privacy policy says exactly what leaves your phone, and why. To remove everything the Guide keeps on your phone, delete the app.
